Miranda Russ- Diversity in Technology
Dr. Chien Shiung Wu also known as the First Lady of physics, contributed a lot to the Manhattan project which was going on during World War Two which produced the first nuclear weapons. She attend school in China but her mentor encouraged her to continue to pursue her education in American since she was the top of her class and seemed to have a knack for technology and physics. Her uncle funded her trip to America, which her family was part of her inspiration to continue on as they were very supportive. Her father even started a school for girls to receive an education which at the time was uncommon. She broke many Barries not by only being a woman in science but also moving to America from China and contributing to some big projects and domination the field she was in even over the men she was working with.
Pedro David Espinoza, also know as the Robin Hood of technology, he was born and raised in Peru but attended University of California at Berkeley in San Fransisco on scholarship. He believed networking was extremely important and worked very hard on making connections with people which also inspired him to begin his own company after realizing how much networking can contribute to a successful business. He eventually went on and started a company called Smiley Go which is an app to help companies invest smarter. He was inspired to break barriers and make his way in the technology field.
We can combat racial bias in computing technology by collecting more data when making AI systems. Although it is a robot or technology that produces the information it is made by humans who input the needed information into the system. By collecting more data from different groups and types of people and leaving any personal biased out of the creation of technology can help begin to combat racial bias. People making this technology can listen too feedback from others and continue with quality assurance to fix any bugs or issues anybody may find with certain technology.
